Wrapping up...

After that, Aaron suddenly appears, stabbing Todd with his own knife and taking Viola. After waking up several hours later, Todd finds that the knife had cut a shallow wound after penetrating his mother’s diary, and hurriedly goes after Aaron. Quickly, he becomes sick with infection. With Manchee still following, Todd rescues Viola, but Aaron pursues them. They escape on a boat, but Aaron is catching up when Manchee attacks him, ripping off half his face. Angry, Aaron kills Manchee, after Todd leaves him to save Viola. Todd then faints from his infection.
When he wakes up, Todd sees empty space, and remembers the events prior to his long rest. He gets really upset for his loss of Manchee. Viola is there with a doctor named Dr. Snow, who says they arrived five days ago, and that they have outran the army because they travelled miles on the boat. Todd insistently walks out of the house, and hears someone singing a familiar song. It’s Ben.
After this is when you start to understand everything and I am not going to spoil the ending because I know their are a few people who would like to read this after me...

What has happened...

After more silence (even though they are both capable of talking), a rifle is suddenly pointed at them by a woman named Hildy. Hildy, learning that Todd is from Prentisstown, is shocked and feels angered, but soon finds that nothing in his Noise suggests that he knows why. Todd and Viola spend the night at Hildy's and her husband, Tam's, house. Tam has Noise but Hildy, being a woman, does not. Todd is told that women aren’t affected by the Noise, nor is it fatal for them.
Next morning, Hildy takes Todd and Viola to a settlement named Farbranch. They are introduced, Viola seeking a means to contact her people on the main ship, while Todd is shunned by the entire community. He remains clueless as to why. It’s nightfall when the men from Prentisstown, who are now an army, burn down the town. Todd and Viola escape and flee for the most technologically advanced settlement on New World, called Haven, where there is a cure for Noise and a possible transmitter tower.
After a few days, Prentiss Jr. finds them. Todd wants to kill him, but discovers he is unable to. After a brief fight, Todd settles for tying up the Mayor’s son before the pair head off for Haven.
Midnight comes, and they find a campfire and a wire with fish on it. A Spackle is sitting besides this, and Todd is shocked, having been under the impression that all Sparkles had been killed during the war. Fuelled by anger and frustration, Todd leaps at the Spackle and kills it with the hunting knife, stunned at the amount of blood and the animal’s human-like fear. He drops the knife after, distressed.

Connection to my Life

As i left off in my last post, Todd is escaping from the swamp with Manchee, he comes across the source of the silence. There is a mute girl, who is being questioned by Aaron, who is cowering in a corner. Todd uses Cillian’s hunting knife to attack Aaron and he and the girl escape. She leads his to her spaceship, where her parents’ bodies are decomposing, and it is here where he realises that she has crash landed on New World. She cooks him food on a contraption Todd names a ‘Firebox’, and they leave the ship behind, though the girl remains mute throughout the rest of the book.
At this point, the men of Prentisstown, mostly Aaron and the Mayor's son, Prentiss Jr, have caught up with him. Not knowing what they will do to the girl, Todd takes her with him, and they reach the woods. After this, Todd shows his frustration at her lack of speech and her Quiet, which he finds disturbing as he believes she therefore must not think or feel anything. After many hours of walking and thinking, he realises that, as he is infected with the germ, he could potential transmit the virus to the girl and kill her. He then quickly realises that the girl can hear his thoughts.
She panics, running away, but soon meets Aaron nearby. Todd saves her once again, and they both set off, she keeping her distance from him. This peace is short lived as more Prentisstown men arrive, this time on horseback with rifles, and the pair is force across a long wooden bridge. The girl uses her "firebox" to burn the metal pillars, rendering the bridge useless. Todd then hears "Viola". He spins round, shocked to hear the girl repeat "My name is Viola".

This connects to my life because i know what it's like to know someone who is mute. It is frustrating but it's also sad because they can't talk even though how much you want too! Thats why i was happy when She started to talk because it just meant she was scared.

Jump...

Over the past few days I have made a HUGE jump and I am now finished The Knife Of Never Letting Go. There are over 400 pages in the book and my last post was when I was on page 210.

Don't know what's happening... (Visualization)

Right now Todd doesn't know what is happening. Ben and Cillian won't tell him anything and their going frantic to get Todd out of the house. Right as Ben and Cillian were running through the house packing, the door bell rang. As Todd was heading to the door, Ben grabbed Todd and ran into a small room in the house. Cillian went to the door and the Sherif was there. The Sherif wanted to talk to Todd about something but Cillian said he was doing chores. But because of Todd's noise, the sherif heard him from the house. Todd and Ben heard Cillian say that he wouldn't let the sherif in because he had a rifle. So Ben started to Panic and he and Todd worked their way toward the backdoor. By now the sherif was yelling from the front door that he knew where the were and to not try t escape through the backdoor. Todd broke free from Ben and ran into the kitchen. By then it was all over. Only a few noises and then the sherif was on the ground with a blood filled mouth and Cillian holding the rifle down on him. The sherif stared at Todd and said to watch out because something was coming and it would get him. "There was no where to run and no where to hide. So be prepared..." This part was really visual for me. It made me feel like I was there running and hiding with Todd in the house. It was weird because I would sometimes find myself putting the book down and feeling my heart and it was racing. This was a very visual part of the book and i'm excited to read more and find more visual parts.

Sentence Starter

I wish that when Todd went to the swamp and he saw something, that he checked it out. He looked around but he didn't really checked to see what it was. I think it would have been better if Todd looked around because that's what i would probably do. It would have also made it better to read because it would be suspenseful.

Time to escape... (Prediction)

My book is now starting to get good. Todd met Ben (other guardian) in the wheat fields and opened up his thoughts to him. Ben is the only person that Todd can trust and he let Ben read his noise (thoughts). When Ben heard Todd think about the swamp and how something was out there and that there was no noise. Ben and Cillian were worried. Todd needs to get out of Prentisstown as soon as he can and he can't think about the swamp at all because the wrong person might here him. The bad thing is, is Todd came back through town and now everyone knows he is still here and that he can't go far. Todd is worried because in the New World, there is no other place but Prentisstown and where would Todd go if he has to leave? And what could happen to Todd as the clock ticks by? I really can't put my book down at this point. The way Patrick Ness wrote the book, every page leaves you wondering what will happen on the next. So it definitely makes it hard for me to put the bookmark in. I predict that Todd is going to leave Prentisstown as soon as possible but I have a feeling that somehow he is going to slip and let his noise out to the wrong person and then something bad will happen...

Secrets...

Todd had just gotten home from the swamp and Cillian, (his guardian) heard Manchee's noise (thoughts) and that it was quiet. Cillian started to act different and would repeatedly ask Todd what happened. I can tell that something is going on just by the way of how people act. Todd gets a vibe of that something bad is going to happen in a short amount of time and now i think he is going to start putting together what this secret is and why know one is telling him.

The Knife Of Never Letting Go

Where i am in the book is when Todd and Manchee where walking to the swamp and it was silent. Which is impossible. No matter how hard Todd listened he didn't hear any noise what so ever. As they left the swamp to head home something caught Todd's eye. There was something watching him in the swamp. He didn't know what it was but he knew it wasn't leaving. With Manchee barking and growling, Todd and Manchee ran away from the swamp and Todd promised himself he wouldn't go back.

The Knife Of Never Letting Go

The book I'm reading is The Knife Of Never Letting Go. It is about a kid named Todd Hewitt who lives in a "new world" where everyone can hear each others thoughts. He lives in a small town called Prentisstown where there are no more women or kids except for Todd who will soon become a man in a month. When Todd and Manchee (Todd's dog) go for a walk beyond where he should, he finds that there is a secret where suddenly Todd is running for his life and no matter what happens. But how can he run when there is no where to go? and how can he hide when everyone can hear his every thought?
